Before I get to today's spelling topic, I should let you know I have sale August 18th and 19th in my Teachers Pay Teachers Store. 28% off!
Did you know that the average person needs to encounter a word 7 times in order for it to become natural for them to recognize and use?
Both vocabulary and spelling practice come into play with that data.
But how do you practice spelling? Write it 7 times? No! Please no! It has to be spaced repititions. That means 7 separate instances of encountering the word.
Kids these days do a lot of copying words over and over again. Really? There's no better way?
Yes there is! Move with those words! Make art with those words! Make noise with those words! Think with those words! Categorize those words!
But whatever you do, please don't subject children to hours of writing the same word over and over again!
Need ideas? I have an upper grade and a primary book in my shop! Ideas, printables, activity choices galore!
The k-3 pack is here: Super Spelling Activities for Primary Grades
The 3-6 pack is here: Super Spelling Practice for Upper Grades

You read that right. Why? Because I'm letting my demonstratorship go. I know some of you are shocked, but this is a decision a long time in the making (several months) and my downline was forewarned a while ago. I honestly thought December would be my last month but my order for wedding invitation supplies put me over the edge to stay active.
So you're asking why? Let me be clear, I LOVE Stampin' Up! I am NOT leaving because of any angst with the company. I still highly recommend it as a job for stay at home moms, or for crafters who want a discount. The starter kit alone is worth signing up for!
I have just felt God leading me in other directions lately for work at home. You may have noticed me posting about educational items. I have a Master of Science degree in Curriculum Development and was a teacher before I stayed home with my kids. I'm going to be doing more of that as far as work goes.
I WILL still be stamping! I WILL still be paper crafting! I WILL still be blogging my projects and keeping my Stampin With Alicia Facebook page going. Nothing changes there. You just won't be able to order from me. :) I will be a customer and stamping for my own purposes, not teaching classes and holding workshops.
I've had some people who knew I was dropping ask for a recommendation for another demonstrator. If you know my downline member Elizabeth Turley, you can contact her for orders. If you don't know anyone, I highly recommend another member, Vanessa Hughes, and you can order from her online store here: http://www.stampinup.net/esuite/home/vanessahughes/
It's been 10 yars for me as a demonstrator. I will miss the free demonstrator idea magazines, forums, and Convention and Leadership a ton. I will miss group meetings and such. But I am excited about this new venture!
If you know, or are, a teacher or homeschooling parent, check out my Facebook Page and online store for downloadable resources! (Just FYI, in the 7 short years I taught, I received not only my Master's Degree, but also 2 teaching awards! This isn't an out-of-the-blue thing. I really am qualified. ;))

I've been busy posting things in my Etsy shop that are disappearing almost as fast as I post them! Today I have some vintage looking holiday tags there that were great fun to make!
I used the Fan Fair Designer paper and the Ornament Framelit dies. I tied on the lace from a fabric store with linen thread and a vintage faceted button (LOVE THOSE BUTTONS!).
I needed a little something for the background so I stamped off a bit of the postmark stamp from Winter Post (now retired) but you could easily use any script, snowflake, etc... in the background.
The tags are mailing tags that someone gave me but I normally make these with vanilla cardstock and soft suede with two circle punches (to get that reinforced top). Mailing tags are easy and quick to make a stack of and have on hand, way cheaper too!
These are in my Etsy shop if you want to buy them already made, or you could get your supplies to make them from my online Stampin' Up! store!
I've also put a few Christmas stamps in my Etsy shop. Many of them have already sold (in less than 12 hours). It's time to get your projects planned and supplies gathered so you have time to craft your Christmas once the next few holidays are over! I always make the mistake of waiting til after Thanksgiving because I like Christmas to be seperate, but then I run out of time. This year I'm planning projects and collecting materials ahead of time, so everything is ready right after Thanksgiving and it still has it's own time of year. I know, I'm a genius.
And also coming up...
This is seriously fabulous stuff! Here are the Details:
October 29th-November 5th
50% off all digital kits!
A week of free downloads! You can download your freebies at my online store (http://www.stampingwithalicia.stampinup.net)
Woot! Woot! Mark your calendars and get shopping!
