I had planned to start November 1st but I was just too busy getting ready for, and then attending, the California Council of Mathematics Southern Conference. It was "da bomb diggity"!
But at one point I had to decide it was best to let go of stress and not care that 30 days of cookies wasn't going to fit nicely into a 30 day month for me (and I really considered holding off until the next 30 day month!). Forgive me for being slightly OCD. (It bothers me to type that. I feel like it should say OC, "being slightly obsessive compulsive", but everyone says OCD, "being slightly obsessive compulsive disorder". ????)
This is what happens when I'm tired.
Here's the scoop on why I'm doing this. Since I had kid #3 I haven't been baking nearly as much in the holiday season. I really love to drive to friends houses and give away cute packages of baked goods, send them into hubby's work, drop some by for the church staff, etc... (I'd take some to the police station but since I am married to a former police man I know they won't eat home made food from a stranger). :)
I also want to try some new recipes this year that have been sitting on my Pinterest board nicely waiting to be used.
But of course I don't want to try some new recipe when I NEED to have cookies to give away and then not have something good to show for it. I mean, what if they turn out horrible? I've tried more than one thing on Pinterest that was supposed to the best thing ever and it was totally not the best thing ever.
So here's my plan. I'm trying and reviewing 30 recipes for the next 30 days. I am freezing the cookies I make so I can pop them out in December and have some ready. That will free me up to not be rushed, get more cooking in, and actually make time to bake with my kids later too. I will also have plenty of time to taste the goodness and decided whether to keep or toss, and still have plenty to give away.
These recipes won't be the only things I'm giving away this holiday season, just want to be clear about that. I'll still be making some family favorites and fudge and things like that. But since most cookies freeze well, I thought this would be the ideal way to get ahead.
Join me for the next 30 days and see where my cookie journey takes me!
